Maddú - Ursprung

This moth I'm working in Stockholm, Sweden with the production "Maddu" which means heritage in Sami Language. See us on Monday the 29th of October atBlå Huset in Tensta, Stockholm. Its a dance performance about Sápmi, the people, the past, today and how the colonization have and are affecting us.

A performance definitely worth seeing. Me, Minna, Sebastian and Petra will be sharing a lot of personal stories and showing our side of the truth the Sami people are living in today. Our research has been very personal and emotional for us dancers since these are topics the Swedish society usually don't allow us to speak about but the art are giving me back my voice.

Last monday we visited the “Race Biological institution”, a place that shouldn’t exist in the history...a collection of measurements and pictures of the Sami people, where the research ame was to find a “pure human race”. This was an active institution 1922-1958. To get there the government had to prove the “none pure race” and they hoped to find that in Sápmi. They didn’t. But in this books I can find my relatives. I walked in to the library with a strange sensation, I came out with anger...today they call it “medical genetics” and the government still don’t know how to handle there own indigenous people, how to learn from us and how to take care of us as people and a culture that’s still alive.
